Even when including benefits, the reason people go to Google isn&#039;t because of the compensation. It&#039;s because of their reputation (which is comprised of many factors.)

Also, &quot;IT&quot; is completely different from engineering or programming, which you didn&#039;t mention...</description>

		<description>Excellent article, and that&#039;s why I never want to become big. We hire younger developers who love what they&#039;re doing. We realize that some will naturally be better than others, and we treat them well. We create an environment that attracts and nurtures them.

They don&#039;t have to be rocket scientists, but they have to be eager to learn. I think this also speaks to finding your passion. People that work in big IT departments see IT as just a job. They don&#039;t stay up late reading about the latest and greatest developments in the field; hence, they are mediocre. The passionate ones end up going to places where their passion and enthusiasm is appreciated. They will never have to worry about being unemployed or getting laid off. They&#039;re the real go-to guys...
